Our summer pre-season elk calling webinar series is coming to a conclusion on August 20! Paul is giving a final seminar for the season, and the focus is going to be almost exclusively on live questions from participants (and giving away a brand new Hoyt bow of course)!

Two weeks ago Ryan called with an idea: “We should make a video about being quarantined and elk calling, like a lip sync or one of those where you annoy your wives.” He planted the seed, but since we were quarantined we couldn’t meet up to work on one together, we each made our own. Both videos took on a life of their own, so we want you to watch them and let us know which one better approximates how you’ve incorporated elk calling into this quarantine. Here’s a link to Ryan’s video on YouTube, and here’s a link to mine (Tayler). Like the videos and let us know what you think in the comments. We’ll tally up all comments and likes. While the loser won’t be dressing up like Hulk Hogan or Randy Savage (see Jason Phelps most recent elk hunting video), he will be sporting a gnarly mustache on our elk hunt this year. Should be fun!

Over five hundred people participated in last week’s live elk calling webinar featuring the ElkNut, Paul Medel, and Jason Phelps, owner of Phelps Game Calls. It was awesome! Paul started off the event discussing hunting quiet elk, and covered a number of other great topics along the way. Jason then shared his list of subjects that are often overlooked by elk hunters, including, for example, ensuring you have a proper setup. Ultimately both answered participant questions such as: “What’s your favorite call?” “When do you use cow bugles?” and “How to hunt elk early season (i.e., Utah’s mid-August archery elk hunt)?” just to name a few.

The second week of February is generally associated with Valentine’s Day. But for those of you who share a passion for hunting, it’s also the week of two fantastic shows/conventions.
In Nashville, Tennessee, turkey hunters from around the country converge to share in camaraderie, turkey calling, and all other things turkey hunting! Our Turkey Tech app expert, Scott Ellis, and our Whitetail Tech app expert, Steve Stoltz, are both competing in various divisions of the turkey calling championships. And last night—capping off the first show day—Scott Ellis won the grand national owl hooting championship! We wish him and Steve the best of luck in the turkey calling prelims today!
On the other side of the country, the Mule Deer Foundation has fostered what in our minds is the best western hunting expo. Thousands of hunters filter through the Salt Palace, and hundreds of big game tags are given away to lucky hunters. And for the last couple years, the Hunt Expo has hosted the World Elk Calling Championships!
Our company focus of helping hunters develop and improve their calling and hunting skills goes hand in hand with both of these great events. Our business is working with expert callers and hunters and disseminating their knowledge into a format that’s accessible and intuitive to our customers through mobile apps.
Providing additional information through a podcast platform goes hand in hand with this model. To this end, we’ve launched the Got Game University Podcast, which will be organized by series.
Each series will focus on hunting a certain game animal. Right now, our series include ElkNut, Turkey Tech, Duck Tech and Whitetail Tech (one for each app we’ve developed). Each series will primarily feature our expert callers on each app, with occasional guest appearance from other industry experts.
The focus of each series and episode will be to help the do-it-yourself hunter increase their odds of success hunting. If it’s elk you’re after, we want to help you learn the language so you can have more meaningful encounters with elk. Turkeys? The goal is to help you take gobblers pulse and tailor your calling to that specific bird in that specific situation, and then execute a well-placed shot. I think you get the picture. Knowledge equals power, and we want to help you become a force to be reckoned with in the woods!
